Free surreal indie story experience

A Raven Monologue is a free indie experimental game. Flip through the "pages" of an animated story book and follow along with a strangely silent raven-faced man as he walks around a picturesque town.

Without words

With a play time of around five minutes and gameplay consisting entirely of clicking a single button, A Raven Monologue stretches the definition of a game to its breaking point. The experience itself, while lacking in these traditional elements, is soothing and enjoyable. Described by its creator as an experimental story, a series of hand drawn images presents the life of a bizarre man unable to talk. He meets other townspeople and interacts with them, trading items. A unique song is the companion piece for the game and offers up most of the loose emotional narrative. Everything within A Raven Monologue is creative and impressive but the general lack of content or solid plot make any impression fleeting. Fans of the creator's art style or indie content in general will most likely enjoy the few minutes they spend in the imaginative world.

First look

A Raven Monologue is an odd little short story wrapped in a gaming shell. It would be hard to recommend the experience to many, however.

PROS

  • Interesting concept
  • Soothing

CONS

  • Lacking in content
  • More film than game
